Our study indicated that GPI system composed of social, economic and environmental accounts is an effective means to analyze the environmental and social costs of GDP, and comparatively, it can reflect trustily the situation of China's economic development, social progress and sustainability.
Now, the movement of learning and implementing the Scientific Outlook on Development is deepening nationwide. If GPI is taken as a supplement and perfection for GDP, and as additional indicators for inspecting the performance of each region as well as a tool for promoting sustainable development, it will be advantageous to establish a sound competitive mechanism between regions and be helpful to change china’s development mode and to assist decision-makers at all levels to adjust the decision-making in economic and social development.
